“If you’re gonna be a bear. ..”
BE a Grizzly!! Known as the one of the most ferocious land animals, the grizzly bear is feared throughout the “prairie plains!” In the ‘Association of National Basketball'(aka the NBA)..The Memphis Grizzlies from the Southwest division have torn about the Western Conference as if made up of smaller prey. Having faced the heavier competition of an inflated free agent market, the “West” yielded NO non-winning(sub-.500) teams as did the East/ern Conf. Additionally, the returning WORLD Basketball Champions reside in the same division as Memphis and aligning preferential playoff seeding which constantly shuffled under the weight of larger winning percentiles, created the position for a great Grizzly RUN!
The Grizzlies made a date in the second round of the playoffs against a most formidable foe– the Western “titleist” Warriors (most wins). As fate showed in recent campaigns, Memphis has faced the top tier units of the conference in the Semifinals. In 2013-14, having gotten past the Clippers and Thunder in successive playoff-rounds, Memphis’ eventual surmise came at the hands of the immanent champion San Antonio Spurs. As luck would have it, they have their work ‘CUT Out’ for them in their current campaign– engaging the “runaway” player for MVP, the Warriors Steph Curry. Golden State’s elusive point guard dazzled throughout the Regular season and continues to dominate in the post, quite literally and figuratively. The Memphis Grizzlies will continue to challenge for the championship, and continually BE challenged to contribute strong performances! From the archives.

‘ Royal BLUES: the Beat goes On ‘*
San Francisco Giants win the World Series! Yes, they secured a Dynasty– compiling a roster of ‘Speed &
Power’. Although, if you were to measure the distance from “whence they came” then the Kansas City Royals proved to
everyone involved in the most recent installment of the major league baseball season, that they were the TRUE
winners! Only two teams can make it to the finals, and they both represent the best of an individual conference/lge.
Winner of only 1 championship title in their history, the Royals ended the longest playoff-appearance drought
in the [modern]Wild Card era. Waiting almost 30 years to even make it back, “to the Dance”– Kansas City’s only other
‘royalty’ came back in 1985 when they took the St.Louis Cardinals(nicknamed, the ‘I-70 series’) to a decisive Game 7.
This past season, the “Blue Bombas” were 8 games out of 1st[div] as late as mid-July. However, spurred by a 22to5-gm
winning run the Royos manuevered into their first W/C-berth in team history!
Having only 7 post-season trips including 6 AL-West titles, Kansas City empowered by a record-setting
eight-game winning streak to qualify, clinched a spot for a Play-in/Game 5, wild card match-up. Through sheer determination
they defeated the Oakland Athletics[Kansas City’s previous ML-team that played there from 1955 to 1967] in a stunning
12-inning comback victory. Then went on to SWEEP the LA Angels to take the Division Series, propelled off an astoundingly
mesmerizing three straight extra-inning wins. Enhancing the mystique, succeeding to the championship series the Royals
dismantled the “Prom-King” Baltimore Orioles, in four games to NONE!
The World Series did not end in Kansas City’s favor, but it would be imprudent to say they did not finish winners.
For only the 2nd time in a dozen years, the decisive game came on the seventh night. Every ball player’s dream. The spotlight
was on, the stage was set, the globe stood aghast— the palpable energy blazed electric! Alas there could only be one victor
and to those who forget the defeated, neither team had any advantage. Hinging on the final play of the ‘End-game’, in which
a road team had not won in the last nine attempts, the host-Royals rocked out a TRIPLE to put the Tie on 3rd….with their
27th-out looming!
Making only their 7th entry into the post-season, including 6 AL-West division titles, the KC blue collar faithful
will rest assured their team will look to capitalize on the future built off such momentum of a Magical campaign!
