Doug-Deneve-CEO-When-Magazine

Doug attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee from 1980 to 1982.  During this time he had an internship for six-months with MCA Records Distribution Unit.  The first day that Doug went to MCA Records he ran into Hank Williams Jr.’s tour bus.  Hank was scheduled to show up in 10 minutes.  However, Doug was firmly dedicated to his position at MCA (filing artist and DJ documents from across the nation), and passed on the opportunity to see and meet the infamous country music star.

Previous to that, he had an internship with Bob Witt Blue Ribbon Talent.  Bob Witt was a former Chicagoan Booking Agent that represented the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam Series.  As Mr. Witt’s intern, Doug’s task was to book the event, however he was never able to see any of the Volunteer Jams.  In the mid 80’s, Doug was chosen to be a judge on “You Could Be a Star,” hosted by Bobby Randall of “Sawyer Brown.”  Over twenty million people viewed this show on the Nashville Network.  Doug judged quite a few “now” superstars in Country Music.  In the mid 90’s, Doug had an internship with Sound City Productions in what used to be a nostalgic writing house for George Jones and many others.  The highlight of working with Sound City Productions was that he was given the privilege of wearing a star that would get him into the executive ball room at the Opryland Hotel. This unique opportunity allowed him to meet directors such as KT Oslin and Garth Brooks.

As a few years went by, Doug had the opportunity to be part of an exclusive showcase in Nashville and he seized it.  The showcase introduced a new major label signee named Martina McBride who went on to be a superstar in Country music.  Doug says, ” My experience there was making history.  As I went up to the stage I spoke with her to encourage her to be the best at what you do.  She just smiled.  I could feel that she was doing the best to impress the record executives.  It was a great showcase and I could tell she was nervous, so calming her down and showing my support was something I did.”

With a memorable journey through the music industry, Doug decided it was time to take a break and experience new adventures in other areas.  This is when he had the idea and inspiration to begin When Magazine.  He pulled all of his contacts together in order to develop the magazine into what it is today.  Doug’s primary goal for the magazine is to go into print and to continue to build an online presence.  In what can be a hub for up-and-coming artists and creative people of all kinds.  He created a door of opportunity for artists that portray clean, decent, and positive attitudes that we believe can be showcased here.  It is also a hub for interviews both in the entertainment and business sector, containing interviews hand picked by our staff at When Magazine.  Visit our blog talk radio link on our website: When Magazine Radio!!!
