Rest in Jesus
Meditation
Matthew 11: 28 – 30
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Everyday pressures and demands can easily find a person who is weary, heavy laden, discouraged and depressed. Work responsibilities, relationships, an empty void, ministry, financial struggles, personal challenges and more that surrounds our lives leaves us longing for a resting place. A place where we can find true peace, joy, comfort, repair, satisfaction and where we can be refreshed.
The truth is the things of this world can never give us a lasting resting place. Jesus tells us to come to Him for rest for our souls. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11: 28, 29)
Society offers us blackberries, ipads, laptops, designer clothes, Wii, IPods, internet and so much more (nothing wrong with having these items). As much as these items are a pleasure and enjoyable to many, the place where we are tired, weary, confused, hurt, heavy, burdened and empty these things cannot bring the rest we are in need of.
One can go to sleep and not be rested. With all the stress and struggles we face in our lives we may take them to sleep at night or whenever we go to sleep and wake up just as tired and heavy when we laid down. We may try to get accomplish things which we should, but that’s not a resting place.
Our resting place is in Jesus! He will hold us and wipe the tears from our eyes whispering to us how much he loves us and cares. When we think we have had enough or may even feel alone in this journey Jesus’ arms are wide open saying come to me my child, talk to me, rest here and leave all your burdens here.
Prayer
Dear heavenly father I am weary, hurting and tired, but I know I can find rest in you. Lead me beside your still waters and restore my soul. Give me the peace and everlasting joy that only you can give me. Help me to rest in you Father.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
