Encourage Yourself
Meditation
1 Samuel 30: 6
“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”
I find it easier to encourage others than to encourage myself. Sometimes the encouraging words we say to others are words we will need for ourselves. Maybe you’re struggling with your finances and it’s seems like the bill stack is getting higher. Maybe it seems like you’re in a never ending storm you get through one thing only to face another. Whatever we face in life positive or negative there are times we will have to learn to encourage ourselves in the Lord.
The words we speak are important. They either build up or tear down. Proverbs18: 21says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Speak words of life! “I can make it!!!” “I can do all things through Christ!!!”
Encourage Others
One way we can be selfless and be encouraged is by encouraging someone else. You never know what a person may be going through. Your word of encouragement could touch their heart and make a difference in their life. “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 11)
Reading the Bible
In whatever situation you are facing today there are encouraging scriptures in the bible that you can hold onto in your time of need. Say them aloud or write them in your journal. God’s word is true so we can trust and depend on his Word. God is faithful! “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6: 63)
Praise
Praise is our weapon against the devil! Whenever we feel discouraged, we can lift our voices in praise. God inhabits the praises of His people! (Psalm 22: 3) When you begin to praise God that heaviness will lift of you. “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34: 1)
Prayer
Heavenly Father help me to speak words that bring life. When I feel discouraged or whenever I’m facing something in my life help me to encourage myself in you! I thank you Lord that you are my help, my strength and my source. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
