They say cats have nine lives. I know a spider that has nine lives, 50 years, to be exact!  Here is a story that keeps reinventing itself and turning out one success after another!

“The Amazing Spiderman” movie opened up in theaters across America in 3D on July 3, 2012 to a whole new audience and rave reviews! Basically the story of Peter Parker, an outcast loner, raised by his Aunt and Uncle who struggles with trying to “find himself” as he looks for the truth about his long lost parents. The search leads him to the lab of his fathers’ business partner, Dr. Curt Connors. While there he is bitten by a radioactive spider, develops strange new powers and fights the Dr’s alter ego, The Lizard. He makes life altering choices to use his new superpowers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The history of this story began in Marvel comic books in 1962. A human mutate superhero written by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko who possessed super strength and agility. He could cling to most surfaces, shoots spider web strings from his wrists and had a “spider sense” to react to foes and danger. The story always spun in the sub plot of the young teen dealing with adolescence, rejection and inadequacy. He was a figure young people could relate to, the struggles of teenagers. This is the emphasis the current movie and reviewers feel it attracts a “tween friendly audience” with a skateboarder misfit who longs to belong and be loved, according to www.entertainment.ie. The movie’s tender moments are between the boy and his uncle and between the boy and his girlfriend.

The theme is a familiar one, shy, insecure young man becomes an alter ego hero-ie: ClarkKent? Yet with the power comes responsibility! Another life lesson cleverly disguised as entertainment. Spiderman has enjoyed a history of comics, TV, comic strips, video games, children’s books. There were four movies, “Spiderman” 2002, ‘Spiderman 2″ 2004, Spiderman 3 2007- made billions worldwide! All were Box Office Records, they all hit top 20 highest grossing movies or top 30 domestic films and worldwide films.

2011 had the Broadway Musical “Spiderman- Turn off the Dark”. It opened in June 2011at a cost of $70 million, it cost over 1.2 million a week to produce!

Spiderman won awards from 1962 to 2002 for a variety of categories from “Best Comic” “Best Adventure Hero” to popularity

Today’s social media outlets, facebook, twitter, myspace, among others have dozens of pages, blogs, etc on Spiderman the Movie and various video games. Fans posted almost Two-Million “likes” on facebook alone!

23 tweets per minute days after Spiderman’s Premiere.

The comments on reviews are loving it with some negative comments on the 3D aspect. The movie is also available in 2D. Of, course, everyone loves the special effects!  Not bad for nine lives!
